The John Gordon Home. London, Ontario
The London Regional AIDS Hospice is building a new facility called the John Gordon Home for people with HIV/AIDS in the London area. Although there is currently not a cure for HIV, healing is possible and important in HIV infection.
People need emotional and spiritual healing as they enter the dying process. To facilitate this, Visionscapes designed a garden of experiences: those visual and those participatory, both a means of connecting with other living things. By providing a series of public, semi-public, private and semi-private garden rooms residents and family are invited to enjoy and experience. Each of the garden rooms stimulates the senses, defined by a tapestry of storytelling.
This garden was featured in the CSLA magazine, Landscapes/Paysages a publication by the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects(CSLA). The John Gordon Home can be found in the Restorative Environments: Design for Human Health issue in the design section. The John Gordon Home Healing Garden was the first garden in Canada designed and built for specifically people with AIDS. |
