BIOGRAPHY

VIRGINIA T. BURT

Virginia has worked in landscape architecture for over twenty years. Since the inception of her firm Visionscapes in 1996, she has been creating gardens of sanctuary and healing gardens for residential, not for profit, and public clients. Virginia incorporates many techniques to engage clients and stakeholders in the design process in a meaningful way. Both the spirit of the client and the spirit of the Earth are reflected in every project.

Virginia’s work has been a lifetime journey. Having grown up on an apple farm with her outdoor loving family, she has learned the importance of being outside and close to nature. Virginia has always enjoyed art, drawing and sketching as well as the natural environment. Landscape architecture was a natural fit. At the University of Guelph, Virginia began to discover the spiritual aspects of landscapes and nature. During her two years with a ski area planning firm in Colorado, she began a personal journey in the mystical world of spirit.

Upon returning to Toronto, Virginia began working with a collaborative firm of planners, engineers and landscape architects, designing and building large scale commercial, resort and municipal projects. During this time, her spiritual path was separated from her work. More and more these two paths began to intertwine and in 1996, Virginia opened Visionscapes with a commitment to help create meaningful gardens, where people find peace and sanctuary. Her projects range from intimately scaled residential courtyards to therapeutic healing gardens to master plans for sites over 100 acres. Her work in Visionscapes combines her spirit and her knowledge/design experience gained during previous projects.

Recently, Virginia has continued to create meaningful gardens and landscapes, including Norma’s Garden at The Gathering Place, Common Ground - Cindy Nord Center for Renewal, labyrinths and gardens for private clients and master planning for many public clients throughout North America.
